• From the 19th to the 24th of September 2011, creativity, sun, music, waste materials and much more met for the 3rd edition of the Recycled Creativity festival : Loesje was there, what about you ?

    Festival Area Wagenburg Lohmuhle

For a week, Berlin had welcomed a series of workshops and events including a Recycling Cinema in bar Manyo, a Community Day at Open Design City, the Great Recycling Day at Wagenburg Lohmühle and the After Party at S.K. Robinson.

The guests at Manyo Bar enjoyed a recycled short film selection, artistic documentary films and a VJ-DJ performance by Alfred Hackepeter. The Community Day was the occasion to launch “Upcycle it! A toolkit for creative recycling” - the new book of Kulturlabor Trial&Error and to share a collective dumpster-dived dinner.

Finally, on a sunny Saturday, people met to participate in a bunch of creative workshops while listening to delightful concerts. Big Stu, Miranda de Verdier, Clayton Thomas, Stonesdrifters Sound Brigade, Laura Bean, Osla the hermit and the pancake, Joe Czarnecki, DJ Stephie Strumpet and Bobby Starrr shared with us their eclectic sounds.  Create colorful gogo trash wigs, practice yoga, build birdhouses out of old election posters, swap clothes, get information at Loesje’s stand and participate in a Loesje speed text writing workshop were some of the numerous activities happening that day. The creative atmosphere brought us nice new text proposals like:

To end the festival together, an After Party was organized at the club S.K. Robinson. While taking a break from dancing to the music of Trike and the DJs Bobby Starrr, Peter Power and Maurez, we enjoyed the ‘Loesje Room’ designed especially for the party!

In short, this festival succeeded to mix creativity, trash, music, workshops, people, recycling and happiness!

We would like to thanks all the volunteers who came from all over Europe and Germany to help at the festival and the musicians and DJ’s for their great performances!

Keep posted for the launching of the Recycled Creativity movie and the exhibition this November and for the details of next year festival :

  • Last week the Loesje international office had visits from 12 students that had won a contest that the German parliament had arranged. Every year since 1953, 50 students from all over the country are chosen to come visit the parliament and Berlin. As this years theme for the contest was ”volunteering”, Loesje was chosen as a place where volunteering is practised. So we were hosting these volunteers for half a day. Joana, Coline and Safaa told a little about what it's like to do a European Volunteer Service in Berlin, and also recommended it dearly. Also we gave a speed text writing. You will see the sweet results hopefully in next time's voting...

  • Loesje happily presents the film "Social impact of art" by the Slovene Pina crew, filmed at the ODDstream festival in Nijmegen, the Netherlands in June 2011.

  • After the great recycling day the 24th of September Loesje and Kulturlabor Trial&Error hosts the equally amazing after party, at S.K. Robinson, Skalitzer Strasse 36, Berlin. It will also feature the "Loesje room"... Be there or be sorry to miss it!

  • Hi! Salut! Olá!

We are the two new EVS volunteers at Loesje, Coline and Joana. We just arrived at the Loesje’s Imagination and we’ll stay there for a year. It’s our first time living in Berlin and we can’t wait to know more about this city, the people, the music, the culture and everything else.

Here I am, Coline, the new part of Loesje`s Imagination coming from France. I am looking forward to spend one year at Loesje with you all. I would like to meet more free people from all over the world as I already did last year while studying in Istanbul, Turkey. So I will be happy to talk with you in French, English, Turkish and Spanish. As far as I saw, Berlin seems to be a city where everybody can be what he wants, share his interests and mix them with everybody. I am excited to be a part of it through art, street life and activism. To end this short self-introduction, I will give a short word from Loesje in my mother tongue:

I’m Joana, the other newbie here at Loesje. I come from Portugal originally but passed by a couple of other places until I arrived in Berlin. I speak Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and want to learn German. Travelling is one of my main interests, but cinema and other visual arts are also very important to me. I am really looking forward for this year! Can’t wait to start developing projects with Loesje and making out of this city a new cozy and exciting home. I’ve butterflies in my stomach and couldn’t feel more alive! Here is Loesje talking in my mother tongue also:
